Admission to the College
All students seeking admission to the College of Engineering to pursue a baccalaureate degree must meet the following core admission requirements:
- 24 or more semester hours of earned credit in courses numbered 1000 or above
- LSU and cumulative GPA of 2.00 or better, unless seeking admission to a major with a higher GPA requirement (See list of additional requirements below.)
- Credit in MATH 1550 or MATH 1551 with a grade of “C” or better or credit in both MATH 1530 and MATH 1540 with grades of “C” or better. (Students in Construction Management must satisfy one of the aforementioned options or have credit in MATH 1431 with a grade of “C” or better.)
In conjunction with successful completion of the core admission requirements, major-specific criteria must be satisfied for the degree programs referenced below:
Biological engineering, civil engineering, and environmental engineering majors must meet the following additional admission requirements:
- LSU and cumulative GPA of 2.50 or better
- MATH 1550, MATH 1552, and PHYS 2110 with grades of “C” or better
Chemical engineering majors must meet the following additional requirements:
- LSU and cumulative GPA of 2.70 or better
- MATH 1550, MATH 1552 and PHYS 2110 with grades of “C” or better
Computer science majors must meet the following additional requirements:
- LSU and cumulative GPA of 2.50 or better
- CSC 1350, MATH 1550, and MATH 1552 with grades of “C” or better
Mechanical engineering majors must meet the following additional requirements:
- LSU and cumulative GPA of 2.80 or better
- MATH 1550, MATH 1552, and PHYS 2110 with grades of “C” or better
Petroleum engineering majors must meet the following additional requirement:
- 2.80 GPA on all courses that apply to the petroleum engineering degree
Students enrolled in the LSU Online Undergraduate Certificate in Construction Management will be admitted to the college upon meeting the following criteria:
- LSU and cumulative GPA of 2.00 or better;
- Nine hours of 1000- and/or 2000-level CM courses in the required core curriculum with grades of “C” or better.
Upon successful completion of these requirements, students in The Center for the Freshman Year (UCFY) and The Center for Advising and Counseling (UCAC) will automatically be admitted to the College of Engineering. Students seeking admission from other divisions of the university must contact the college to request admission as soon as the admission requirements have been met.
Students with more than 60 hours attempted will be considered for admission on the basis of the dean’s evaluation of the entire academic record. Students transferring from other institutions must meet the core and any major-specific admission requirements, as well as the university transfer admission requirements as detailed in the LSU General Catalog.
Students from other colleges at LSU are encouraged to meet with a representative from College of Engineering located in the William Brookshire Student Services Suite, Patrick F. Taylor Hall 2228.
