Place a small amount of water, couple inches deep in the tin paint can (can use a coke can as well). Put on the hotplate to boil the water. (If you sue the coke can, with glove, quickly invert the can in the shallow pan of cool water. It crushes immediately.) If you use the paint can, with glove, put the can on the table quickly. Put the lid on the can and tap it down with the rubber hammer. Place the can in the trough with cool water in it. The can will dramatically crush with a loud bang.
