SIS Alumna, Cara Chance, 2023 I Love My Librarian Award Honoree
February 01, 2023
BATON ROUGE - SIS Alumna Cara Chance was named a 2023 I Love My Librarian Award Honoree. Cara was the only person from Louisiana to receive this award, and she is one of three public librarians to be honored. Cara is currently the Regional Branch Manager at the Lafayette Public Library.
Honorees for this prestigious award are nominated by library users. Since its inception in 2008, more than 23,000 exceptional public, school, college, community college, or university librarians have been nominated. Chance is now one of 150 I Love My Librarian Award winners. When nominating, community members must detail how their librarian goes above and beyond in their commitment to inclusivity, literacy, and digital access.
Chance approaches learning and instruction from a broad perspective. She earned her MEd with a concentration in Curriculum & Instruction from University of Louisiana at Lafayette and her Master of Library & Information Science from LSU. Her experience is wide-ranging. Chance taught in three different academic departments in a university setting, provided both formal and informal technology and program instruction to people of all ages in a public library setting, and co-authored a book chapter detailing how libraries can serve homeschoolers. She has served as Regional Library Branch Manager; Associate Professor, Head of Reference and Research Services; and Interim Director of the Materials Center and Makerspace Librarian.
