LSU Early Childhood Education Laboratory Preschool Receives High Proficient Rating

BATON ROUGE--The Louisiana Department of Education recently released performance scores for public schools and early learning programs across the state of Louisiana.  LSU Early Childhood Education Laboratory Preschool (ECELP) received a high proficient score of 5.69.  The ECELP continues to place among the Top 10, Type III early learning programs in Baton Rouge.

"We attribute much of our success to the video self-reflection our teachers engage in monthly," says ECELP Executive Director Cynthia F. DiCarlo, PhD. "This process came from research conducted at the ECELP that documented the gains made by teachers when they reflected on their practice using the CLASS framework."

Scores are based upon classroom observations conducted using the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS).  The assessment tool measures various components of the learning environment such as positive climate, teacher sensitivity, classroom organization, and instructional support. LSU ECELP was also included in the Louisiana Department of Education’s Birth to Three Honor Roll, which recognizes sites with high performance for the state’s youngest learners.

“We are so proud of LSU ECELP for its high proficient rating and honor roll status,” says Leigh Griffin, project manager of East Baton Rouge Early Childhood Community Network. “Each year of our partnership, LSU ECELP has implemented cutting edge, best practices in teaching and learning and the results speak for themselves. We are honored to continue our solid partnership with the fantastic administration and staff at the ECELP in our mission to increase early childhood performance in our community.”
