Proposal Roles and Responsibilities
A Principal Investigator (PI) is the individual who:
- Holds primary responsibility for the technical conduct of the project, and for all administrative and budgetary management.
- Is responsible for complying with all contractual obligations, including technical and administrative requirements and restrictions.
PI, Department Chair, and Dean are collectively responsible for:
- The conduct of research programs with respect to sponsor and University policies and procedures
- Charges incurred on projects which are later deemed unallowable due to sponsor restrictions are the responsibility of the PI's department and/or college.
PI's are encouraged to seek assistance from SPA and OSP in the management of sponsored projects.
