Secondary Education Concentration: History

Geaux Teach students graduate in four years with a BA in History and certification to teach Social Studies in Louisiana schools. Students spend three semesters observing mentor teachers in middle schools and high schools in the Baton Rouge area while they complete their coursework on campus. In their final semester “capstone” experience, Geaux Teach candidates work in their assigned schools as full-time Social Studies student-teachers.

Geaux Teach is a unique teacher preparation program because students work closely in a small cohort of peers who share the exciting challenges of observing mentor teachers and, ultimately, student-teaching. While Geaux Teach students really get to know everyone in their cohort over four semesters, they can still take advantage of the many opportunities that LSU offers to all undergraduates, including studying abroad and writing an honors thesis.

Most Geaux Teach alums are teaching Social Studies in Louisiana schools. Others are teaching in schools across the United States and overseas. Still others have gone to graduate school.
